Mountain biking Agua Volcano at 3760m (12,337ft ) is a high altitude epic that very few have done by bike. We start before sunrise with a shuttle to Santa Maria de Jesús – transferring the bikes to horse porters which accompany us to the summit. The hike takes approximately 5 hours – from the crater it is all downhill back to Antigua!

Volcán de Agua is home to one of the longest technical descents in all of Guatemala ~2300m of rocky, steep terrain that follows eroded trails from the rim of the summit crater finishing in cobblestone streets below. This tour is for riders looking for an extreme volcano mountain bike adventure that is unique to the Americas!

*please note that on our scale of 1-5 this tour garners a 6 in both fitness and technicality.

Highlights:

  • One-of a kind high altitude volcanic mountain bike experience
  • Horse-assisted bike shuttle accompanied by local security
  • Sunrise views of the pacific coast, Antigua, Acatenango and active Fuego Volcano
  • Over 2000m (7000ft) of descent in one monster downhill
  • A full day of adventure on the bike – approximately 7 hours

My favorite singletrack day of 5 weeks riding in Guatemala. This trail has it all: fabulous sunrise, rideable climb (at least the first half of it!!) and a 7500′ epic technical singletrack descent. So good. So very good.
