Frequently Asked Questions

What skill level and fitness do I need?

Most of our tours are designed for riders with prior mountain-biking experience. If you’re generally fit and adventurous, you’ll be comfortable on our Beginner / Cultural rides.

Trips rated 4–5 (Advanced/Expert) are for experienced riders who enjoy technical singletrack with features like rocks, roots, drops, and jumps.

We regroup often, it’s always OK to walk a feature, and many itineraries include vehicle support (and e-bike options) to skip climbs.

Where do we meet and at what time?

Meeting points vary by tour—please check the individual tour page for pickup options. Some itineraries—especially those finishing at Lake Atitlán—are one-way and may start and finish in different towns.

Our standard pickup is 9:00 AM, and we offer hotel pickup in Antigua whenever possible. Our office is in Tecpán, Guatemala.

If you need something different, we’re happy to arrange alternative pickups (e.g., Guatemala City or Lake Atitlán) on request. Your confirmation email will include the exact pickup time and location for your tour.

How are your mountain bike tours rated?

Levels 1–2: Beginner / Cultural
Gravel/jeep roads with optional easy singletrack. ~10–30 km, 200–500 m climbing. Great for active riders new to MTB.

Level 3: Intermediate
Blue singletrack, switchbacks, rocks/roots, small rollable features. ~25–45 km, 800–1,500 m climbing. Confident braking/body position required.

Level 4: Advanced
Black trails, longer technical descents, steeper pitches, optional drops/jumps. ~35–55 km, 1,200–1,500 m climbing. Strong skills and fitness.

Level 5: Expert / Enduro
Sustained technical terrain (loose volcanic soil, exposure), bigger features (drops 30–60 cm), high speed. ~40–60 km, 1,500–2,500 descending

Fitness & altitude: Expect 3–6 hours on the bike. Many routes are 1,500–3,000 m above sea level—pace feels harder at altitude. E-bikes are available on select tours.

How much climbing and distance are there?

See the itinerary for day-by-day stats. Typical daily range: 25-40km and 500-100m of climbing. Routes may be adjusted for weather or trail conditions.

Can I rent a bike or an e-bike?

Yes. We offer quality rental bikes in sizes S–XL, plus e-bike options on select tours. Reserve during checkout to guarantee availability.

Can I bring my own bike?

Absolutely. Please arrive with fresh brake pads and tubeless tires. We carry common spares and provide basic mechanical support during the tour.

What if I can’t keep up?

We use regroup points and have vehicle support. You can skip climbs or shorten stages using the support vehicle when needed so the group flows together.

What happens if it rains?

We ride year-round and may modify routes for safety and best trail conditions. In severe weather we reschedule stages or adapt the itinerary.

What should I bring?

How do payments and deposits work?

Reserve your spot with a 50% deposit. The balance is due the date of the tour. We accept major cards (Stripe) and PayPal/Venmo.

What’s your cancellation or reschedule policy?

Free reschedule until 14 days before departure when space allows. Cancellations follow our policy: see full policy.

Do you offer private tours or custom dates?

Yes—private guiding and custom itineraries are available for groups and individuals. Contact us with your dates, group size, and preferred difficulty.

Are your guides bilingual?

Yes. Our guides are bilingual (English/Spanish) and hold international MTB guiding & first-aid certifications.

Is travel insurance required?

Strongly recommended for medical coverage and trip interruption. Some tours may require proof of insurance at check-in.
